Hedda Johannesen was the BioCat ambassador at UiO from 2018 to 2020.
Hedda has taken most of her education at the University of Oslo where she specialized in biochemistry and pedagogic. After her master she worked a bit as a science teacher before returning to the University for a PhD. Among others, the PhD position was a supervised du Ute Krengel and Hans Petter Hersleth, both members of the BioCat community.
Hedda loves networking, and exploring different work enviroments. In 2017 she was awarded the Kristine Bonnevies stipend that made it possible for her to study six moth abroad at the University of Lund. She has also been awarded by the Robert and Ella Wenzins legat making it possible to participate at the ICBIC18 conference in Florianopolis, Brazil.
She has tried to participate at minimum one conference a year and has won four poster prizes during her time as a PhD student, including the Royal Society of Chemistry poster award at ICBIC18 in Brazil 2017, the main poster prize at NBS Hafjell in 2018, and recommended-poster award at the BioCat conference at Hurdal in 2018, and the PDBe poster prize at the 32nd ECM in Vienna 2019.
During her PhD she has had several BioCat supported research visits to the Universities of Dresden, Ljubljana, Lund and Copenhagen resulting in valuable data used in her PhD thesis. After successfully defending her PhD in August 2020 she is now exploring the horizon.
