Ingar Leiros is Associate Professor in Structural Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, UiT The Arctic University of Norway (Tromsø). He defended his Ph.D. in 2000 (crystal structure and mechanism of a bacterial Phospholipase D). He did post. docs at the Norwegian Structural Biology Centre (NorStruct) in Tromsø and at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, France) before he was hired in a permanent position in 2007.
His research in general is on functional and structural characterisation of enzymes and enzyme products involved in environmental adaptation (eg. salt, temperature and desiccation). Ingar is currently Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry and has been project leader for BioCat since 2018.
