Extremophiles and Biotechnology

Description of Research Group

We work with a range of extremophilic microorganisms and their diversity; thermo-acidophilic methaneoxidizing bacteria, Archaea, halophiles, strict anaerobes and hyperstable enzymes from thermophiles with a potential for industrial applications. Physiological, genomic and molecular microbiology aspects are being studied . We often host foreign guest students and researchers, and possess a large and active international extremophiles network.

Technology, expertise and equipment

We have equipment for cultivation of extremophiles, including a new bioreactor for cultivation up to 80 degrees C, expertise in cloning, expression and purification of hyper-stable enzymes, structural biology, bioinformatics, metagenomics, genomics etc.
