The Venue
Sola Strand Hotel and Spa, September 11th-13th
This year’s conference is to be held at Sola Strand Hotel and Spa, a historic hotel filled with tradition located on Solastranden beach, only 15 minutes from Stavanger and 5 minutes from the Stavanger Airport. They offer 145 bedrooms, modern conference facilities, a first-class restaurant, unique event facilities and the Sola Strand Spa. Sola Strand Spa offers a wide range of spa treatments, a counter-current pool, three saunas, a cold plunge pool and luxurious relaxation areas. Sola Strand Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels & Restaurants.
BioCat will include 2 hours of access to their wellness facility into your stay, which includes a pool, saunas, foot baths, cold water scrubs and relaxation areas. You can signup for access in the registration form, and specific signup days/times will come later. If you would like to order a specialty treatment for yourself at the spa, feel free to explore their website and do so at your own expense. Come prepared for the weather and the free-time beach activities you may like to try.
Please be aware that all PhD students, Master students, and Postdocs will be assigned a roommate at the hotel. If you are one of these and would prefer a single room, you can indicate that on the registration form and order a single room at your own expense.

Shared transportation to and from the venue will be organized from the airport at BioCat’s expense. The shuttle will leave the Stavanger airport Monday (for workshop participants) at kl 12.30 and Wednesday (for main conference participants) at kl 11.30. You will be returned to the Stavanger airport on Friday at kl 15.30. The trip takes about 5 minutes. It is also possible to walk. Feel free to arrange private transportation at your own expense. Cost and Grant Requirements
The conference and pre-conference workshop are free of charge for BioCat members. The only requirement is that PhD students must submit a poster abstract and present that poster at the BioCat conference. There will also be opportunities for flash presentations (1st and 2nd year PhDs) and longer presentations (3rd year+ PhDs) with personal feedback. The deadline for both poster and oral abstracts is August 1st. The deadline for oral PowerPoint presentations is September 4th. Follow this link for more information about abstract guidelines, posters, and oral presentations.
Scientific Writing with Dan Soule
There will be an in-person scientific writing workshop with Dr Daniel Soule from the UK in the days preceding the conference, September 9th-11th. This is a popular workshop that always fills up, and space is limited. Registration for the conference and the workshop can be found at the bottom of this page.
